Etiquette

There’s a thing called etiquette that I feel, is a part of manners that has been lost over time.

There’s an unspoken rule that follows suit with certain parts of our daily lives. As children we were taught to say please and thank you. We were taught to hold the door for someone, and to chew with our mouths closed... or some of us .....there’s still that small portion of the population that seem to chew food like lions scarfing down another bloody mammal, with guts flying all over the place, allowing you to see every bite as if you wanted to be 1st in line at the dinner show.

Growing up, if I ever went to the bank with my mom I was expected to be quiet and well mannered, greet the teller with a smile and a hello, be courteous, and when we leave say goodbye.

Somewhere between 1990 and 2021 times have changed drastically and the sense of entitlement has risen and shot through the roof. People lost their common courtesy and became extremely entitled and demanding. They seem to know little to nothing about personal space and feel that they deserve whatever it is they want and when they want it. Maybe, it’s a product of social media and having everything we want at our fingertips, who knows!

The reason for my rant!

As a part of the medical professional world, I feel obligated to inform thee thusly, of proper manners while visiting your doctor and doctors office staff.

Yes, we have duties we need to perform

Yes, it is a profession, so we the medical staff and people on the receiving end are to remain professional

Yes, there is a professional etiquette

What does this mean you ask?!

~Say hello!

~Be patient, as a patient

~PHOTOGRAPHS are NOT obligatory and NOT assumed okay!

When we are gowned up in our PPE, walking to your vehicle to do our job and perform a Covid test on you, that is not automatically deemed an okay thing to do. You are not on the safari ride at Great Adventure, we are not animals coming to ur vehicle!

YOU ARE NOT A PART OF THE PAPARAZZI, and we are NOT CELEBRITIES. You can not just snap a picture and then hide your phone like it didn’t happen.

(One word-RUDE)

~ Maybe instead of seeming like a creeper, try to be a human with manners and say, excuse me but would you mind if I take a picture.

(I know, it’s a strange concept)

~Please and thank you go miles!

~When your at the doctors, it’s on the rude side to have the Tik Toks blasting in the waiting room, there are other people in the waiting room.

~Remember when Mom would say “ Use your inside voice” that can be put into action while visiting a doctors office

~Yelling gets you pretty much one step closer to the door, the one that lets you in and out of the office, not the one closer to seeing the doctor.

~You’re not the doctor, you are the patient. You came to the doctors for advice.

I never went to the doctors a day In my life, and told him how to be a doctor. Unfortunately, for some reason, Dr. Google that informs everyone that their untimely death is approaching vastly, is more of a doctor to some ill advised people than the one who spent half of his life in school is. SIKE!!!

~ Hello, Goodbye, Please, and Thank You.

A fairly simple concept, we’re all taught In preschool and somehow as we grow up, some of us turn into, pompous entitled adults who lost all sense of common courtesy.
